Special Events:

The Sound Garden
Enjoy a slice of made-to-order pizza and a refreshing drink in our outdoor “Sound Garden.” Open at Peavey Plaza each night beginning 90 minutes prior to concert time.

The Bongo Lounge
Look for the Bongo Lounge inside Orchestra Hall upstairs on the second floor lobby, featuring bongo drumming and festive pre-concert and intermission treats. Open each night beginning 90 minutes prior to concert time.

Music Up Close
Join us 30 minutes prior to each concert for lively discussions about the music - or stay late on Saturdays for a Q&A with Osmo Vänskä! Seating is available anywhere on the main floor; concert ticket required for entry. Check individual concert listings for complete details.

Merchandise Sale
It's the semi-annual Minnesota Orchestra merchandise sale, featuring CDs from Minnesota Orchestra musicians, our Grammy-nominated Beethoven Symphony cycle, books and more! Merchandise from our Percussion Festival artists will also be available for purchase at our sale table in the lobby.

Schmitt Music Orchestra Hall Piano Sale
Schmitt MusicFor the true percussion afficiando, come back Friday-Sunday June 20-22 for the 2008 Schmitt Music Orchestra Hall Piano Sale. You’ll see a breathtaking selection of pianos on sale on the concert stage and throughout the lobby at Orchestra Hall. You'll also have the opportuntity to meet Franz Mohr and see the documentary film “Note by Note," following the creation of a Steinway concert grand from forest floor to concert hall. A portion of the sale's proceeds benefit the Minnesota Orchestra. For more details or visit the Schmitt Music website.

 

Pre-concert Entertainment

Plan to arrive a little early and enjoy free performances by local percussion artists before the concerts below. Live entertainment begins in the lobby 60 minutes prior to concert time unless otherwise specified.

Drums Unlimited
Local percussion trio - featuring Dave Stanoch, Marc Anderson and Daryl Boudreaux - adds an eclectic blend of rhythms to downtown Peavey Plaza.

Mu Daiko

Hear, see and feel the power of percussion in a dramatic and expressive performance by local Japanese taiko drumming group Mu Daiko – a kick off to our three-week Percussion Festival you won’t soon forget!

Drumming the Soul Awake

Discover your rhythm in this unique & interactive drumming performance. And since there’s no right or wrong way to drum, this experience is all about having fun!

International Novelty Gamelan

With its roots in Indonesian culture, a Gamelan orchestra showcases a vibrant collection of percussive instruments, including xylophones, drums, gongs and more. Hear an array of sounds blend in this performance by local ensemble, International Novelty Gamelan.

Savage Aural Hotbed

Traditional and “found object” percussion instruments meet in this high-energy and compelling ensemble.
