We've been expanding our outreach programs onto the Internet.
You can now tour Europe
with the Minnesota Orchestra or enjoy the view (and sound!) from
center stage at Orchestra Hall. Please explore some of our interactive projects and outreach activities.
August 2006 e|tour
Local audiences, Orchestra enthusiasts and students will be able to share in the Orchestra’s summer travels through an online eTour, which will offer the latest photos, blogs from the road and reviews at minnesotaorchestra.org/etour. The eTour will also offer creative lessons and activities for elementary school students focusing on the tour music, traditions and cultural heritage of the cities visited by the Orchestra. The eTour is made possible in part by a gift from the Bush Foundation.
Composer Institute
The Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute, presented each season by the Minnesota Orchestra and American Composers Forum in cooperation with the American Music Center and the University of Minnesota School of Music, provides the opportunity for up to nine composers from across the nation to participate in an intensive week-long immersion into the world of a major American symphony orchestra. The Composer Institute, which to our knowledge is unique in the nation, features orchestral rehearsals, a public performance, and numerous targeted workshops with leading music industry professionals on musical, career, business and professional development issues. Click here for complete program, schedule and submission information.
Crescendo Project
Crescendo Project is an association for young patrons of the Minnesota Orchestra that brings together people who share common interests, diverse backgrounds, and a desire to experience everything the Minnesota Orchestra has to offer. This new initiative presents orchestral music to patrons in their 20’s and 30’s in a fun and unexpected fashion, as well as provides musical education, philanthropic and networking opportunities. Meet the musicians, explore the music, have a great time!
eTour and Virtual Tours
Since 1996, the Minnesota Orchestra has produced innovative, interactive virtual tours to accompany each of the Orchestra's international tours. Click here to explore previous tours of Europe and Japan, complete with classroom activities to enrich upper elementary curriculums.
We
are Met at Gettysburg
This project was a unique collaboration between the Minnesota Orchestra
and the Philadelphia Orchestra commemorating the fateful union of
the 1st Minnesota Regiment and Philadelphia forces at the Battle
of Gettysburg. Explore the historical connection, and learn about
the creative process of composers Steve Heitzeg and Amy Scurria,
brought together to compose a work for full orchestra that highlights
a significant moment in our nation's history. The three movement
work was originally performed in Philadelphia in January 2003 and by the
Minnesota Orchestra in March, 2003.
The
Sound Site
Close your eyes, open your ears and explore sound in this first-of-its-kind
collaboration between the Minnesota Orchestra and Science Museum
of Minnesota.
